Trove Tuesday - Walkabout Lake Macquarie

In a browse through the Walkabout Magazine on Trove we found several photographs featuring Lake Macquarie. (for clearer images please follow the links in the citations for each article).

In 1958 from D.F. Gray of Blackall's Park is a photograph of an Aboriginal Shield Tree.

The St Andrew's Cross Spider was the subject of a photo shared by H J Bear in 1953.

    I really should have looked at the whole article before my initial response. Bert (Hubert) Bear wrote the St Andrews Cross spider article. He was a great friend and mentor to my dad, Jim (D.F.) Gray. They both worked at Cardiff railway Workshops. Bert introduced my dad to bushwalking in the Wattagans and dad became a dedicated birdwatcher. Bert’s real interest was orchids, and he had a superb collection at his home in Venetia Ave.
